I was trying to dial in my printer, so I watched the youtube vids and read some pages about extrusion.
While trying to mark my filament I fussed with rulers and tape measures, but my pathetic human form found I was shy of hands or dexterity.
The premise is simple, use a target line (at a known distance) and another line a bit further on so you know the overshoot.
Printing precision isn't important here, knowing the distances is the key. I like easy math, so I dialed my printer until the markers came out at 100mm, 120mm and object length of 130mm.... ish. This only really helps your ego, having repeatable marks and distances is the really important bit.
The numbers are on the print for aesthetics not practical purposes. Not being able to read them is not a failed print.
So, prep the nozzle for your preferred heat, rest the gauge on a fixed point ... like the top of the feeder, or ptfe guide. slot the gauge along the filament, and slap a pen mark across the mark guid
