Brachiopods

Brachiopods (or lamp shells) are bivalve-like organisms that occupy their own phylum. Their shells are hinged at the read, rather than the side (as a clam or mussel would be). These fossils were collected from a Castle Hayne formation and are 35-40 million years old.
