This is a basic clamp that holds your vernier caliper on your 8mm rods for a very accurate calibration of steps/mm. 16x5mm caliper opening. 25x25x23 mm

Find the best way to have the movement of the axis collapse the caliper, Zero it in the extended position, then drive the axis 50mm and read.
