This is a short video summarizing how I built a small device that sends a Pushover notification to me every time the washer/dryer completes a cycle.

While you could duplicate my build/case, I've included the Fusion360 file so that you can modify the case to best fit your specific needs - especially if you use a different type of protoboard, add a reset button, etc.
