Okay so I took the design and remixed it a bit to make the One Size Fits All- (OSFA) spool "Holdller". Holdller is of course a combination of holder and roller!

I remixed it to make use of some typical spinner bearings, I used some ceramic bearings I had and honestly it almost spins to well. It like zero friction, silky smooth- (enter that's what she said jokes now).

Rods were pieces of 8mm linear shaft, or you can use a steel rod home depot sells that is non-metric but works just as well-
