When I got iPhone 8+ I ordered this for a wireless charger:

I have now made a charger dock and phone stand.
When the phone is in portrait it does not charge but it's at a great angle for viewing.
When in landscape mode it charges well.
The stand is designed to have the cable route out the rear and to cover the charging light, as it was too bright for the bedroom. I used this cable but pretty much any will do:
