This is an Optical Transmitter with a box for the circuit boards.
Holes are for metal LED holders, found at Radio Shack and DigiKey, for 5mm LEDs.
I am using the SFH4550 IR LEDs with a 6 degree beam width. 2 parallel blocks of 6 LEDs in series. Beam pattern at 1 meter is 13cm X 11cm.
Holes on the back of the box are for (left to right) microphone headset, Mic gain control, and 12v power.
