Mount puts the player at an angle so the discs are less likely to fall out when the tray opens and closes. Note that the angle on the mount means the player is not 100% flush with the wall, so it does put some tension on the mount; this is to ensure that the player doesn't shift much so that the tray doesn't get blocked by the mount, but this does mean that you can break the mount when you put the player in.
