I've had an IKEA sink in the bathroom for a few years now... (https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-basins/rättviken-single-wash-basin-white-art-10216575/
...and the waste plug, goes in the central hole of the waste, a bit like a manual "pop up" waste, except it jams in the hole, and you can't get it out easily. I cured this by removing the O-ring, and always meant to replace it with a wire ring, but there was nowhere to keep the plug when it wasn't being used anyway.
