It's a clip for your spring for your mag for your fun.
Holds a standard capacity (30/20) magazine in a compressed state to more easily fit in small spaces.
Can't find a photo of it, so I included a gratuitous photo of high capacity ammunition for you guys.
Seriously, storing a spring compressed doesn't degrade it, unless you are storing that compressed spring in salt water or a furnace.
