The regular d-pad was a bit weird, i had issues with up and down also pressing left and right, regardless how far i placed the board away from the case. It also didn't really feel like a real dpad.
I made a few different sizes of cylinder that fit between the buttons to act as a rocker, to make it feel more like a traditional d-pad and make it harder to have false keypresses. I used some putty to hold it in place between the buttons.
