These are an experiment in automating the creation of variations in 3D models. In this case to maintain the style of multiple miniature bases of the same visual style but produce enough variation between bases such that two (or half a dozen) miniatures standing next to each other, mounted on the same style of base, are not standing on broadly identical bases. This seems like something that can be delivered by the nature of 3D printing in a way that other physical manufacturing methods would find
