Most Dell servers have connectors that handle either SATA or SAS drives. This allows a hobbyist to utilize cheaper SATA drives with these machines. However, the more recent servers have 2.5 inch drive bays. 2.5 inch hard drive also push the cost up.
I got a hold of a good server that had these 2.5 hard drive bays. Since I had a decent supply of 3.5 inch hard drives, I looked for a solution to utilize what I had instead of spending more money.
