Without a support in the middle, my rear SKS Bluemel fender was very loose and wobbly. At first, I used some zip ties to hold the mid-mount fender clip in place, but far cleaner and stiffer is a custom bracket to attach it to the headrest on my 2009 Catrike Expedition.
