This is a second post of this thing. The first attempt contained 2 gears which were sized incorrectly. The inner gear of this version has no bumps on the flat surface and the edges were left unsmoothed. There are also artifacts inside the inner gear from mods I made which do not effect the print at all.
As a kid I enjoyed playing with a Spirograph but always found it frustrating when the gear popped out and ruined the drawing. I have tried a number of spirographs available here and they seem to do the same thing, so I made one for myself. I made a capture ring on the edge of the inner gear which prevents the rotating gear from slipping upward. I also made sure the holes fit a standard inexpensive ball point pen. The result is a lot easier to use and even more fun!
We discuss this thing and LOTS of other 3D Printing subjects on the 3D Printing Today Podcast. 45-60 minutes chocked full of extreme 3D Printing stuff. No fluff... only hands on 3D Printing, 3D Design and 3D Capture! E
