40mm rocky base construction set

This is a rocky base for gaming miniatures. I designed this 40mm base for my Warhammer 40K miniatures, but it can be used with anything.

What makes it unique, is that it's "modular". The model is made up of 13 separate rocks, that can be removed strategically to create different bases.

I use MeshMixer to do this. Simply click on a rock to select it, press "E" to select the entire shell, then press "Delete" to remove it. Or alternately separate the shells, and select only the shells/rocks you want, the combine them again and export to STL. (See photo).

You could also use NetFabb, or MeshLab, or whatever favorite mesh editor you like to use to achieve the same results.

There are dozens of possible permutations so you can create many unique looks, and if you paint and base your models, it could lead to infinite possibilities.
