台灣在日治時代即引進試種栽培。因臍橙最適在地中海氣候型之柑桔產區栽培，故以台東郡成功鎮的臍橙栽種最早，產量及品質也最佳，近年來南投水里、台中東勢及台東東河、花蓮瑞穗亦有部分栽培
