This is my fully custom, under $500 CNC router/mill. This tool has successfully been able to cut the materials of birch, plywood, poly carbonate, acrylic, and aluminum. The finished cutting size of the machine ended up being 34" x 33" x 4" for X, Y, and Z, respectively. All parts can be found in the full assembly file in the CAD, so if you want to make your own there you go!
To be more descriptive, I used belt/track powered for the X and Y axes, with two motors powering the Y axis. I used NEMA 23 stepper motors, and the TB6600 - T4 drivers. For the structural components, 3' long aluminum 2x3x1/8" box tube was used, and all plates and plastics used were poly carbonate. The router was an avid power 1.25 HP router. All standoffs, lead screws, lead screw nuts, and belt tensioners were sourced from servocity.com and gobilda.com. I got my timing belt from mcmastercarr.com. All 3D printed parts (pulleys and stabilizers) were home made with PLA. I used the mach 3 software to control the CN
