From her shoulders, an array of sensitive sensors fanned out like metallic petals, constantly feeding data she didn't understand to the unseen observers. A futuristic, full-cover helmet obscured her face, its interior a cascade of targeting reticles and system diagnostics that overwrote her own memories. In her hands, the cold, familiar weight of an assault rifle felt less like a weapon and more like an anchor to the only purpose she had left. They had called it "synchronization," but it felt like a slow, methodical erasure. Every whir of a servo, every pulse of light along the conduits on her suit, was another fragment of her humanity
