"Fastest claws in the west!" a tipsy ranch hand whispers conspicuously to an unconscious prospector. He’s been hearing that a lot lately. It was true that he’s never lost a showdown. That had mostly been luck. Opponents too drunk, old, or nearsighted to have stood a decent chance, or even hit the broadside of a barn in some cases. This kind of reputation was getting dangerous. He’d already had one young outlaw nearly shoot off his eye stalk trying to prove themselves, and he had the hole in his hat to prove it! Behind him, the saloon doors creaked open and the long shadow of a ten gallon hat crept up the counter. His statocyst twinged, detecting a subtle shift in the wind, the bounce of a picturesque tumbleweed out on the street, and the slow sound of a Spanish guitar that always signalled certain trouble.
