Short Description: A 3D-printable "ancient ruin" planter designed by a history teacher. This Doric column has been "claimed" by nature, featuring a jagged, organic opening for your favorite succulent or spring bloom. Full Description: For the "Let Spring Bloom" contest, I wanted to design something that combines my two favorite worlds: Ancient Civilizations and maker tech. The Concept: There is something poetic about seeing flowers bloom in the cracks of old stone. It reminds us that no matter how big our monuments are, nature always reclaims them eventually. This planter is designed to look like a broken Doric column that has become a home for new life. Design Features: The "Ruin" Look: I used Onshape to model a jagged, organic top edge that mimics broken stone, so every angle looks a little different. Deep Fluting: The vertical grooves (flutes) catch the light beautifully—especially if you print this in Marble PLA. Plant Health: I included a dedicated drainage hole at the bottom because nobody likes root rot! Printability: Designed to print upright with NO supports needed. Printing Tips: Material: Matte PLA or Marble PLA looks best to sell the "stone" effect. Infill: 10-15% Gyroid is plenty strong. Walls: I designed it with thick walls (4mm), but I recommend 3 wall loops in your slicer to ensure it's watertight. Scaling: The model is 100mm tall by default, but you can scale it up or down. If you scale down significantly, double-check that the drainage hole doesn't get too small. I hope you enjoy printing this little piece of history as much as I enjoyed modeling it. Let spring bloom!
