Started with lacrimosa2k2’s excellent design but ran in to a couple of issues in my testing which I’ve addressed here:
###Strengthened anemometer cups
There was a stress riser at the edges between the cup and the arm. Light/Moderate impacts caused multiple breakages at this point. Added a substantial fillet to improve durability, have yet to assess any aerodynamic effects but the numbers seem pretty much unchanged.
###Weatherproofed rotor
Rain had a tendency to pool in the small gap between the top screen and the rotor. This water would seep past the bearing and into the sensor electronics. Added a drip-rim to the rotor do deflect water away from the area; partially shielded the bearing to protect it from any errant drops; notched perimeter to promote drainage. Also tapered the cup arm slots to ensure a firm fit while maintaining easy repairability.
