*Note: This IS a remix, I just can't find the original on Thingiverse anywhere yet.. I'm still looking though.
Like many of us, I tried quite a few spool brackets until i found the one that worked for me. I have space issues, so I really wanted/needed a top mounted spool holder. One thing I found with a few of them was that my filament would get 'twisted' as it was pulled off the spool. I found the reason for this was that the spool needed just a little bit of tension on it. Without any tension, all of the top-mounts I tried let the filament twist.
This top mount puts just a little bit of gravity induced tension on the whole spool. You see, the spool wheel is mounted solid on the threaded rod. It's not allowed to spin freely. So, the friction resistance between the spool, and the mount are perfect for allowing the filament to feed and not get twisted, while still easily being pulled off for extruding.
The "catch" was, the added resistance caused the original design to pull
