Z-Axis Calibration Test (Z-Wobble & Banding Diagnostic) This .3mf file is a dedicated diagnostic tool designed to identify mechanical issues in the Z-axis, specifically Z-wobble (oscillation) and Z-banding (horizontal lines). While optimized for the Anycubic Kobra series, it is applicable to any FDM printer. What does this test detect? The model features a tall, slender tower with smooth vertical walls. This geometry makes it easy to spot irregularities caused by the leadscrews or the gantry's vertical movement. Z-Wobble: A repeating wavy pattern (usually every 8mm on a Kobra) often indicates a bent or misaligned leadscrew. Z-Banding: Irregular lines or "ribbing" that may be caused by inconsistent extrusion, loose belts, or fluctuating hotend temperatures (PID issues). Printing Recommendations To get the most accurate results, the 3MF file includes (or should be set to): Mode: Vase Mode (Spiralize Outer Contour) or 1-2 walls with 0% Infill. Layer Height: 0.2mm is recommended for easy measurement of recurring patterns. Speed: Keep it constant (e.g., 40-50mm/s) to ensure artifacts are mechanical and not caused by acceleration changes. How to Analyze Your Results Inspect under side-lighting: Hold a flashlight or phone light at an angle to the printed surface to highlight the shadows of any ridges. Check the Pitch: If the ridges repeat at a distance equal to your leadscrew's pitch, focus your maintenance on the Z-rod, couplers, and brass nuts. Check Temperature: If the banding is random, try a PID Tuning on your nozzle.
