For my home built RetroPie arcade, I purchased an Arcade Controller Pack directly from Geek Pub. I designed a few parts to clean up (not my rats' nest of wires) my controller area.
1) Geek Pub USB Encoder Base: Small base to mount under their USB Encoder (https://www.thegeekpub.com/product/usb-encoders-for-arcades-1-pack/). Four #4 x 1/2" countersunk wood screws were used for mounting. This part might work for other encoders as well.
2) 30 mm Button Spacer: I drilled my through holes to Ø1 3/16" [30.2 mm] and the threaded section of the buttons were closer to 28 mm. These spacers tighten things up. They are 5/8" long.
3) 24 mm Button Spacer: I drilled my through holes to Ø1" [25.4 mm] and the threaded section of the buttons are close to 24 mm. These spacers tighten things up. They are 3/8" long.
