These are made to be surface mounted as if you were using an aluminum part. Paint the parts individually first before assembling them. They glue up easy using some simple Cyanoacrylate glue (Brand names: Crazy Glue, Super Glue). I bought my glue at the dollar store. After painting you will start with the small caps, snap them into place and then glue it down. Then take the large pocket align it on a small edge and put a drop of glue on the rim to set ONLY one of the short sides in place. Once that drop sets then you will roll the large vented part over the rest of the pocket and it will take the proper curve shape. Tack that end down with glue and also let it set. Once dry you can add a few more drops of glue along the long edge of the pocket apply pressure to the vented face so it glues up nice and tight. Test fit your part to the skins of the astromech and sand the edges if needed to ma
