this is, as my friend called it, a "hate child". A few years ago i built a prusa i2 and loved that the frame was made out of 5/16 rod i could get at a hardware store, however the bed was heavy and the y motor is overdriven to move it at a similar speed to the x carriage, furthermore there are 2 motors for the z axis witch, considering it has the highest gear ratio i saw as a unnecessary $14. this printer is a combination of the makerbot and prusa i2. it utilizes the cheap, easy to access parts of a prusa but has the movement of a maker-bot.
this printer is partially parametric and you can use the supplied excel sheet to show the required rod lengths
the parts required are:
12 lm8uu linear bearings
7 rollerblade bearings
8mm (or 5/16) smooth rod
8mm (or 5/16) threaded rod
a whole lotta nuts (about .5 lb)
