Commissars serve as commanding officers for the Automaton ground forces. Orders from Cybercentral Command are filtered through them to all Automaton units across the theater of war. Their real-time uplink enables rapid response from command to any requests for repositioning or the deployment of reinforcements.

In battle, commissars are notorious for their use of bot-drops to overwhelm and flank deployed helldivers. Each is armed with a laser pistol and a 40mm grenade launcher embedded into their right forearm. Their rigs hold high-explosive grenades for offense, and flares for illumination and signaling.
