Ever wonder what that huge spider looking thing was in the opening credits of the first season intro? I did. Deductive reasoning tells us its an assembly dock, but it's so blurry, you could never get a good look at it. So, since no one else ever brought it up,
and I love collaboratively filling in the gaps with modern Engineering, today achievable technology and potential storyline lore, here's my take on it. Challenge accepted.
So what we have here is an axial rotation Crane Superstructure as the mainstay of the design. Off of it are multi-directional cranes, like robotic arms to position Space frames and the like into position to be welded together. Mind you, I've hear anyway the same metals used in space construction that are the same, at least on the outside can never touch. I don't know how true that is, but fine. It's a good explanation as to why both B5 and Star Trek would have the different color alternating patterns we all know and love to call Aztecing to the Vessels Hu
