The electorate of Baden was a small state on the western edge of the territories of Germany. It's ruler, Margrave Charles Frederick, eventually became a prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire before its dissolution. Initially fighting for the Habsburgs, in 1805 Charles Frederick changed sides and fought for Napoleon. 16 thousand of his troops would march alongside the french into russia in 1812, and only a few hundred would return. Sculptor: Thanh Cong Ngyuen
