The problem
----------------
I needed to install a new faucet for my bathroom sink. Because I was installing a single-hole faucet in a 3-hole sink, I needed to use an escutcheon to cover the outside holes. The escutcheon is made from very thin metal and has a piece of foam rubber underneath to create a seal over the holes. However, once I began tightening the nut for the faucet, the center of the escutcheon began to collapse in the middle from the force because it had no support underneath.
My solution
---------------
I designed and printed a simple ring the same thickness of the escutcheon and the same ID as the hole in the vanity. This way, the faucet had something solid to tighten against. I carved a hole in the rubber under the escutcheon to accept the OD of the ring, and assembled and tightened everything. It worked perfectly!
