S.P.S. originated in Prague in 1988 from former members of the band Defekt. In the early 1990s, the band attracted attention through clashes with supporters of the skinhead movement.S.P.S. lyrics stem from local Czech issues and react to the current situation, so some older lyrics can be seen as outdated; the lyrics are generally politically engaged. Many songs (such as "Svoboda 89," "Podivný dědictví") reflect disappointment with the Velvet Revolution and subsequent developments. The music draws from classic punk influences such as The Clash, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, G.B.H., or The Exploited.
