In 2019, astronomers were finally able to obtain a direct image of a black hole, confirming without a shadow of a doubt that these mystifying celestial objects are real and not just a mathematical abstraction. In this fully 3D printable model, I attempt to capture the stunning visual display from the point of view of an astronaut approaching a supermassive black hole. The accretion disc would appear to fold around the black hole due to gravitational lensing effects. The print is 2 plates (black hole & bracket on plate 1 and the accretion disc on plate 2). I used matte black filament for the black hole and the bracket. I also added a slight fuzzy skin effect to the black hole sphere which really gives it a nice matte finish.
