If you post your makes, it will make my day!
Recreation of the famous Canadian Bluenose sailing ship, but as a single-master.
The triangular sail does allow it to sail on a roughly beam reach, but it's a bit tricky to get the sail just right, a touch of rudder offset helps as well.
Included are cut-out plans for the sail patterns, I used acetate paper.
Print the keel heavier than the upper hull for balance!
Hull is pegged together with 3/16" steel rod acquired from my local Canadian Tire (generic hardware megastore).
Check out my cool collection of cups, mugs, & chalices here at WeCanDrinkTogether.com
Update: How to Sail It
- The rudder is long, so it is sensitive to small adjustments.
- To sail downwind with the square sail
-- Ensure the sails are perpendicular to the boat's keel
-- Ensure the rudder is straight.
-- The boat will correct & sail downwind even if deployed facing another direction.
-- May capsize in cross-breeze/freak wave
- To sail on a beam
