Michelle Lee Bergen County Academies Mr. Defalco Reading, whether for leisure or for an assignment, should be an enjoyable experience. However, tight bindings and small covers may inhibit this experience. Based upon the way a book’s pages are put together or the sizes of the pages, it may be difficult to keep a book open. Many people may find themselves spending more energy on trying to keep a book open at a certain page rather than actually reading the text on the page. In order to mitigate this issue, I have designed a “Book Corner.” This mechanism is comprised to three pieces: the outer shell, the inner plate, and an intermediate spring to maintain tension between the cover and the book pages. These parts can be made through the method of fused deposition modeling (FDM). The corner of a book will be inserted into the outer shell and the plate and spring will be placed behind the book. Also, a circular silicon material will be inserted on top of the plate and inside the shell in order to have friction between the book and the corner holder. The “Book Corner” is a new way of keeping a book’s pages open while reading, creating an enjoyable experience while reading.
