This is an adaptor to connect the 40mm diameter Bosch1400 watt and 1200 watt router dust tube to a 38mm vacuum cleaner hose. Nothing clever, just a push fit. The ribs are for strengthening as there may be sideways force on it in use, depending on your setup.
