The Brass StriderIn the age of steam and gears, when the world was still half mystery and half map, the people of Ironwake built machines that could walk where ships could not sail and sail where wagons could not roll. Their greatest invention was the Brass Strider, a towering walking machine with six powerful legs and a great rounded helm shaped like an old diver’s helmet.The Brass Strider was made of riveted copper plates, brass pipes, and iron joints that hissed with steam at every step. Its glass portholes glowed warm amber at night, making it look like some giant mechanical sea creature wandering through the fog. Each of its six legs ended in broad gripping feet, designed to sink just enough into mud, sand, or rocky earth to keep balance.
