When you're on a web-based meeting, if your camera is muted and you're AFK, no one knows! It's much better to leave your camera on so people can see the empty chair so they know if you're there, and when you come back. But, it's also weird if you leave and all that's left of you is an empty chair! What if you were kidnapped? What if you ran away?? What if you've passed out and need help?! Let your co-workers know that your absence is expected, and you'll be back soon. “But why not just say so in chat?” you may be asking. Aha! That doesn't always work. Some video conferencing software only lets people see the chat history since they joined the meeting, so if you step away (sans-sign) before other people join, they won't see your note.
