Kintsukuroi - to repair with gold Kintsukuroi is the art of repairing broken pottery with a lacquer resin. Its earliest origins can be traced back to 15th century China when an officer in the military sent back a tea bowl for repairs. It was returned to him, patched up and completely usable. The Japanese quickly caught hold of the idea, and improved on it by adding the powdered gold to the lacquer.
