I was after a grid for my Canon 580 EXII speedlight, but none of the ones I could buy really appealed to me. They all seem a bit “clunky”, held together with magnets, rubber bands or Velcro. I figured there had to be a neater way.
These grids make use of the bump on the top front of the speedlight to stay secure. They go on easily, they come off easily, and most importantly they stay on when they are supposed to stay on.
The Canon 580 EX speedlight is often “interpreted” by other companies, so these will also fit the Yongnuo YN560, Godox TT600, TT685 & V850. I’ve tested the fit on the Yongnuo and the Godox TT685 and the fit is perfect.
There are three beam angles provided: 20°, 30° & 40°. These beam angles are approximate. They are only as accurate as my rudimentary geometry skills.
I’ve tried to keep the grid itself as thin and tight as possible to reduce the amount of light lost. I might do some experiments later to see if I can make it even thinner.
