For an upcoming road trip through Scandinavia, we designed a practical solution to keep the car windows partially open at night for ventilation while providing protection against rain. Additionally, we wanted the option to add a mosquito screen when needed.
This magnetic holder system was created specifically to solve that problem.
What You'll Need:
3D printed holders (files provided)
Neodymium magnets (to be glued into the holders)
Clear plastic sheeting/foil for rain protection
Optional: mosquito screen
How It Works:
The system uses magnetic holders to secure a clear rain shield over partially opened windows. The top edge of the film is wedged between the door frame and the rubber seal to create a watertight barrier. For best results, use slightly thicker material at the top edge (we simply doubled the film and heat-sealed it) to prevent slippage.
For mosquito protection, simply drape netting over the window opening after installing the rain shield.
