Students work in groups up to four holding the Thing and as the 4 mm ball bearing rolls around they must explain what is happening to oxygen and carbon dioxide and name each area the ball is in (vessel, chamber, etc.). The ball has a divot as a starting and ending point. The teacher can ask the students to describe blood pressure at these places.
