Cat Litter Scoop

A handy cat litter scoop that makes caring for your cat just a little bit easier. Fed up of flimsy cat litter scoops that break after only a few months I strove to design an easy to use scoop that would last a long time whilst being cheap to manufacture. The obvious answer was 3D printing…My first step was to design the scoop using Solidworks before cutting the body into the scoop and handle. The primary reasoning for this is because it gives the best possible layer line direction for the scoop and overall form whilst avoiding large overhangs which would be difficult to print. The handle is less optimally oriented, instead opting for improved form whilst its sub optimal directional strength is improved using a strong double walled design with a hollow interior. This acts in a similar fashion to a steel pipe, giving excellent bending and torsional strength which contribute the most significant structural stresses.
