I started searching for Catan bits. There are many wonderful player sets; modern, medieval, ancient. I printed a few sets and something became apparent immediately - all the detail is lost when the piece is printed with an intense color. The details were lost in red, black, yellow, dark blue - in fact, most colors.
A neutral color must be used if you want to see the detail. But if you use grey or white for buildings how do you include player color? The answer is in these designs of mine - colored bases.
These pieces were designed to be printed in two colors. (You can, of course, print them entirely in player colors or paint them.) If you want to do as I have done and don't have a 3D printer that can print in two colors, then you will need to do a filament change.
Notes on a filament change
If you have never done this it's not difficult. After importing a stl file into your slicer do a preliminary slice. Then preview it to determine at what layer the buildings clearly begin.
