I was looking for a bunch of chain splitlinks to hold up the bug net over our bed. I had found https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7036869 by https://www.thingiverse.com/vincent31010 but it was way too big and didn't look like it would scale down too well. So inspired by that model I set out to make my own. I wanted them to be quite long but they needed to be quite slim. I made then so they have an internal opening size of 40mm long by 10mm wide and a “wire” thickness of 5 x 5 mm. They needed to fit through eyebolts with an eye of 9mm internally. In prototype versions I found that the tips of the outer prongs of the connector piece spread open with any load so I settled on this version which uses a sort of wierd dovetail configuration. They don't need to be very strong as there are 12 of them holding a bug net but curiosity got the better of me and…. I had some 2.5kg barbell weights and thought I'd see if a link could hold one?See the pictures for the answer.
