Time for another birthday gift, this time for a friend's son who really likes Astrobot! I had a few objectives in this one:It had to look like a screen, meaning black when off. A stealthbox, if you will.I wanted to emulate the scanlines as seen in gameplay.I wanted to be able to swap the plates and trigger it between red and blue according to the emotion, without having to touch an interface. Completely physical and automatic. To do this, I rigged up two little microswitches in the base with corresponding pegs inside the face. Magnets on each side not only hold the face on, but also ensure sufficient force to depress the button. Just set the face you want on, and it does the rest. If no face is installed, the antenna pulses orange to tell you what's up - no button is being pressed. The fun part was making the "off" screen. I remembered something curious I came across while running black filament through my LTD test box - 0.08mm layers of black on a tPEI plate leave a lot
