Cheech Wizard is an iconic American underground comics character created by artist Vaughn Bodē in 1957, when he was just 15 years old. The character originated from a simple drawing of a star-covered wizard’s hat with legs sticking out, and was named after a can of Cheechie Nuts Vaughn saw on his kitchen table. Cheech Wizard made his first appearance in an unpublished journal strip in 1964, followed by a self-published black-and-white comic in 1967. The character gained wider attention with The Collected Cheech Wizard in 1972 and Cheech Wizard: Suck My Turnip in 1973, published by Last Gasp. From 1972 to 1975, Cheech Wizard comics also ran in National Lampoon magazine.Cheech Wizard is known for his foul mouth, crude humor, and absurd behavior, often seen kicking his long-suffering Lizard apprentice in the groin—a gag he called the "time distortion trick." Despite claiming to be a powerful wizard, Cheech is a shameless fraud. The true identity beneath the hat is never revealed,
