I haven't completely printed this thing... SO... Good luck. TestFit file included to make sure things fit.
You can figure out how to make this thing work. 2 colored squares, base and boarder maybe another color, whatever. You get this idea.
It's customizable. Mostly to change the size of the magnets, but you can also change the square size which will change the size of the entire board, within reason, Customizer will show you if it breaks it. I HOPE. Customizer doesn't work so well with Linux.
Holes in the back of the squares are for magnets. Use magnetic chess pieces or rely on gravity, but know it'll some day fail.
If you do actually get this whole thing printed, please post a Make, I'd love to see this thing complete.
I do NOT accept tips, I'm a HACK.
If you like this thing, tip someone who deserves it. There are plenty of them here on Thingiverse.
Also please excuse my programming. I have NO idea what I'm doing. Advise is appreciated.
