Chopper Frame Update Hey folks, Now that my son and I are actually building this project and we have the ironhead engine on hand, we realized my 1st chopper frame was estimated incorrectly in length for mounting an ironhead assembly. This update lengthens the frame by about 3.25 inches on the bottom tubes and the backbone. The center vertical support and all component brackets have also been repositioned for accuracy. This frame can now be used for an actual build, however it is designed specifically for an ironhead engine. For novices and beginners, building a frame is critical, and you have to remember these old frames were made of 1 inch tubing. Choppers take a great deal of stress at the center and neck, so make sure you ONLY use DOM tubing or CHROMOLLY tubing. Any of the seamed or welded tubes are not acceptable. They will eventually stress and crack. Additionally, make sure your reinforcement wraps at neck and top center vertical are a minimum of 14 guage steel (or thicker). Neck to backbone should be 1/4 inch thick minimum. Also, do not weld on any of your mounting brackets until you have positioned the actual components in place to test fit. Sometimes welded mounts need a little tweeking, depending on how accurate your frame is. I have also uploaded this frame as an update to the original frame in my library. (I will not assume any liability for the use of this design, and remember, in some areas in the world this frame may not be legal.) Have fun and enjoy!
