Get Organized We have washing machines. We have tumble dryers. But how do we fold our clothes? Folding clothes is an important activity in home cleaning, but as of today, most people do it by hand. I envision an automatic system that will fill in the gap between the tumble dryer and the closet. The first step is to make a machine that can fold clothes. For this reason I am introducing a completely mechanical, automatic, 3D printed machine that will fold clothes by the press of a button. The machine will be weight driven. Weight driven input power is appropriate because folding clothes requires little force. 3D printability All parts are designed with 3D printing in mind. This means: - Most of the parts can be laid flat on the printing bed. - Most of the parts have little or no overhang. - No part is larger than 36 x 24 x 36 inches which means it can be printed on the Fortus 900mc printer. A majority of the parts are also small enough to be printed on common home 3D printers. Further work The machine has to be printed in real life in order to optimize clearances, dimensions, do strength testing, etc. End result may also depend on the 3D printer and material. That said, the folding machine is only the beginning. My intention is to develop accompanying machines that will load, unload, sort and stack.
